Ben ha frequentato l'Università di Windsor dove ha ricevuto il suo Honour Bachelor of Public Administration Degree e il Master's Degree in Political Science. Ha frequentato l'Università di Alberta Faculty of Law dove ha ottenuto il suo Bachelor of Law Degree e in febbraio 1999 è stato chiamato all'Ontario Bar.
Ben è stato sempre una persona attiva nella sua comunità. Ha insegnato la scienza politica all'Algoma University College; è stato volontario con il Sault Area Hospitals Foundation, il Homecoming Festival Committee, Ontario Special Olympics e Easter Seals Telethon.
Ben è Ex-presidente del Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce e, dal 1998, ha fatto parte del Consiglio Amministrativo e vari comitati. Ben ha fatto parte anche del Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre Management Board, del Board of Directors of RAPIDS Success Business Growth Inc., the International Joint Relations Committee, del Sault Ste. Marie Industrial Marketing Strategy Committee, del Board of Directors of the Economic Development Corporation of Sault Ste. Marie e del 2007 United Way Fundraiser Cabinet Committee. Presentemente Ben e membro del CIBPA. Ben ha ricevato the 2006 Volunteer of the Year Award dal Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.
Credo che ho un'obligazione di ridare qualche cosa alla mia comunità, perchè sono state le persone ed i commercianti di Sault Ste. Marie che mi hanno sostenuto.
Ben è maritato a Joanne Gaetz e hanno due figli, Vanessa e Matteo.
Ben è membro della Law Society of Upper Canada, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie, the Algoma District Law Association, e the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.

Marie Planning Advisory Committee e fa parte del Consiglio Amminstrativo di Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.
Peter fa parte del Consiglio Amminstrativo di Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology. Peter e membro di Rotary Club North of Sault Ste. Marie.
Peter è capace di provvedere servizio in Italiano.
Peter è sposato a Rene è hanno due figli Michael e Keira. Rene è insegnante di scuola elementare con the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board.
